Pruning & Removals

Pruning and removal are where the difference between an arborist and a crew with a chainsaw is most visible and most expensive to get wrong.

Trimming & Pruning

Every cut is permanent. A tree does not heal a wound the way an animal does; it walls the damage off and lives around it. Bad cuts stay in the tree for the rest of its life and often shorten it.

We prune to clear structural defects, reduce weight over houses and driveways, restore trees that were topped or badly cut by a previous crew, and open canopies for light and air movement. We prune fruit trees for fruit, which is a different job than pruning shade trees for structure.

What we do not do is top trees. Topping is the most damaging thing done to trees in Colorado, it is still widely sold, and it produces weak regrowth that becomes a hazard within a few years. If someone has quoted you on topping, get a second opinion.

Timing: most deciduous trees are best pruned in dormancy, roughly February through March. Storm damage and hazards are handled whenever they occur.

Removals

We remove trees when removal is the right answer and we will tell you when it isn't. Our default is preservation, and a meaningful share of the trees we are called out to remove do not need to come down.

When a tree does need to go, technical removal is what we are built for: trees over houses, in tight side yards, near power lines, over fences and outbuildings, and on steep or forested terrain. Sections come down under rigging and control rather than being dropped.

Cleanup and haul-away are included.

Shrub Pruning & Removal

Shrubs get pruned into boxes by landscape crews on a mowing schedule and slowly decline. We prune shrubs on their own terms thinning and renewal rather than shearing and remove overgrown or dead material where renewal is no longer realistic.

Not Sure what your tree needs are?

Neither are most people, and that is exactly what an estimate is for. Troy will look at the tree, tell you what is happening, and give you the options including the option to wait and watch.
