Our work is led by Troy, an ISA Certified Arborist with 46 years of hands-on experience, advanced scientific training, and a reputation for precision in the most complex and sensitive tree care environments.
Our founder completed advanced arboricultural training through the Davey Institute of Tree Sciences, which built a deep understanding of tree biology, diagnostics, and long-term health—knowledge that informs every decision we make in the field, enhancing our commitment to environmental sustainability.
Throughout his career, he has consistently refused to take the easy path when a better one exists. This mindset of landscape preservation defines American Tree to this day.
In 2012, he was entrusted with the care of a historic Colorado tree connected to the White House. When removal was considered, he declined, choosing instead to design a custom preservation treatment. The results were so effective that his methodology continues to be referenced annually, showcasing our dedication to shrub maintenance and effective tree care.
It’s a moment that perfectly reflects who he is: an arborist who believes trees should be understood, protected, and given every chance to survive.

With 46 years of hands-on experience, he holds credentials and licensing virtually unmatched in Colorado, including a rare state-issued license allowing for chemical applications in forested environments. This license requires extensive knowledge of environmental sustainability, wind control, and treatment precision, enabling him to provide responsible tree care services where others legally or technically cannot.

Meet Troy
American Tree was founded by Troy King, an ISA Certified arborist whose career spans nearly five decades, driven not by trends or shortcuts but by a deep respect for trees and the environmental sustainability they provide.
Originally from Cody, Wyoming, our founder grew up surrounded by wide-open landscapes where nature wasn’t ornamental but essential. This early connection sparked a lifelong dedication to understanding trees as living systems, which is a core aspect of our arborist services.
His expertise led him to advanced training through the Davey Institute, where his skill in tree care services earned him relocation to Colorado. It was here, in the Front Range and foothills he now calls home, that he saw an opportunity to approach tree care differently, focusing on landscape preservation.
In 1993, he founded American Tree with a simple but uncommon philosophy: preserve first, remove last, and never compromise safety or integrity, while also emphasizing the importance of shrub maintenance.
